Due to the current circumstances The University has made the decision to cancel all on-campus face-to-face events, and that includes Teacher CPD, until 30 June 2020 but Dr Gurion Ang will be coming into the lab on Saturday to film the prac and other workshops.

If you retain your registration, you will be provided with the link to the recordings, resources, and receive your PD certificate, available from 28 March.

Senior Biology PD (2020 Term 1), presented by Dr Gurion Ang, UQ School of Biological Sciences

Unit 3 PD Day – 22 Feb 2020, Saturday

A computer-based workshop on basic statistics, data analysis and interpretation, as well as professional scientific report writing, using authentic Unit 1 and Unit 3 datasets. This will be useful for new teachers or those who want a refresher. After morning tea, workshops cover key content deficits in Unit 3 including but not limited to ecological theory, cladistics, and ecosystems, with ideas and implications for teaching and learning strategies based on how subject matter has been written in the syllabus and assessed in mock external examinations. These are extended and complementary PD to Biology Data Fun Days, Ecology Data Fun Days, and An Ecology Extravaganza delivered in 2019 Term 1 to 3, but no prior knowledge is assumed.

Unit 4 PD Day – 21 and 28 Mar 2020, Saturdays

Workshops will cover key content deficits in Unit 4 including but not limited to modern biotechnology and evolutionary theory. A practical session will also walk you through DNA extraction, polymerase chain reaction, and gel electrophoresis from start to finish with particular emphasis on aspects of these processes that relate closely to the syllabus subject matter. These are extended and complementary PD to UQ-STAQ Senior Biology Day delivered in 2019 Term 4, but no prior knowledge is assumed.
