About The AgAware Group 

The Mission of The AgAware Group is to increase the level of understanding and awareness of the role of Agriculture in our society from social, economic, historical and environmental perspectives in order to contribute to a sustainable future.

In consultation with the Queensland Studies Authority, The AgAware Group has developed 7 curriculum modules, integrating key learning areas and delivering core learning outcomes.

These use an agricultural context that is real to students - food, fibre, the environment and sustainability

AgAware Key messages about Agriculture:

  • Agriculture comprises a range of activities for producing animal and plant products essential in satisfying human needs for food, fibre, and shelter. Specialised forms of agriculture produce products and services which assist human health, recreation and leisure.
  • Agriculture comprises a range of interconnected enterprises known as agribusiness which incorporate primary, secondary and tertiary industries and involve the production, refining, marketing and distribution of agricultural products.
  • Agricultural industries make significant contributions to both the domestic and national economies, and create employment opportunities in support industries and services in rural, regional, and metropolitan areas.
  • Successful modern agriculture requires applying acquired specialised knowledge and skills from many disciplines, and an understanding of the many factors which impact on agricultural viability.
  • Agriculture has made, and continues to make, significant contributions to Australian society, history and culture, at a local, national and international level.
  • Agriculture continues to undergo rapid change through the development of new technologies, new products, new industries and new markets.
  • Modern agriculture utilises and incorporates a set of principles for environmental and economic sustainability.
